Competing patterns of signaling activity in dictyostelium discoideum.

چکیده
Quantitative experiments are described on spatio-temporal patterns of coherent chemical signaling activity in populations of Dictyostelium discoideum amoebae. We observe competition between spontaneously firing centers and rotating spiral waves that depends strongly on the overall cell density. At low densities, no complete spirals appear and chemotactic aggregation is driven by periodic concentric waves, whereas at high densities the firing centers seen at early times nucleate and are apparently entrained by spiral waves whose cores ultimately serve as aggregation centers. Possible mechanisms for these observations are discussed. Typeset using REVTEX

The centrosomal component CEP161 of Dictyostelium discoideum interacts with the Hippo signaling pathway
CEP161 is a novel component of the Dictyostelium discoideum centrosome which was identified as binding partner of the pericentriolar component CP250. Here we show that the amino acids 1-763 of the 1381 amino acids CEP161 are sufficient for CP250 binding, centrosomal targeting and centrosome association. Analysis of AX2 cells over-expressing truncated and full length CEP161 proteins revealed def...
متن کاملNavigating signaling networks: chemotaxis in Dictyostelium discoideum.
Studies of chemotaxis in the social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum have revealed numerous conserved signaling networks that are activated by chemoattractants. In the presence of a uniformly distributed stimulus, these pathways are transiently activated, but in a gradient they are activated persistently and can be localized to either the front or the back of the cell. Recent studies have begun ...
متن کاملArrestins function in cAR1 GPCR-mediated signaling and cAR1 internalization in the development of Dictyostelium discoideum
Oscillation of chemical signals is a common biological phenomenon, but its regulation is poorly understood. At the aggregation stage of Dictyostelium discoideum development, the chemoattractant cAMP is synthesized and released at 6-min intervals, directing cell migration. Although the G protein-coupled cAMP receptor cAR1 and ERK2 are both implicated in regulating the oscillation, the signaling ...
متن کاملChemoattractant signaling in dictyostelium discoideum.
Dictyostelium is an accessible organism for studies of signaling via chemoattractant receptors. Chemoattractant-mediated signaling events and components are reviewed and presented as a series of connected modules, including excitation, inhibition, G protein-independent responses, early gene expression, inositol lipids, PH domain-containing proteins, cyclic AMP signaling, polarization acquisitio...
متن کاملSignaling molecules involved in the transition of growth to development of Dictyostelium discoideum.
The social amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum, a powerful paradigm provides clear insights into the regulation of growth and development. In addition to possessing complex individual cellular functions like a unicellular eukaryote, D. discoideum cells face the challenge of multicellular development. D. discoideum undergoes a relatively simple differentiation process mainly by cAMP mediated pathway...
